The Jack Daniel Distillery has announced its Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey as a year-round offering in the Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Collection.

To craft the expression, Jack Daniel’s classic mash bill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye, is distilled and mellowed through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal. Barrels are prepared with a high-toast, low-char toasting technique inspired by the earliest barrel-making traditions, before the barrel is charred. The whiskey then enters the Heritage Barrels at 100 proof and is matured in some of the highest-elevated barrel houses in Lynchburg, Tennessee. While each barrel will vary in age, all Single Barrel Heritage Barrels are matured for at least seven years.

“The way our barrels are built and our ability to experiment are two of the most important parts of the Jack Daniel’s whiskey-making tradition,” said Chris Fletcher, Master Distiller at the Jack Daniel Distillery. “It was exciting for us to see what our Heritage Barrels produced with previous limited releases, and we’re thrilled to bring that same unforgettable flavor to more friends with this permanent offering.”

The permanent launch follows award-winning Heritage Barrel limited special releases in 2018 and 2019 that also utilized Jack Daniel’s distinct barrel toasting.

Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Heritage Barrel Tennessee Whiskey is available for price of $69.99.

The Jack Daniel Distillery recently announced the release of its Jack Daniel’s 14-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey, marking the first time since the early- to mid-1900s that this expression has been offered.

Jack Daniel’s 14-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey, offered at 126.3 proof, begins with their classic Tennessee Whiskey mash bill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye, is distilled in Lynchburg, Tennessee, and is mellowed drop by drop through 10 feet of sugar maple charcoal, just like the classic Jack Daniel’s Old No. 7 Tennessee Whiskey.

This year’s Aged Series also includes Jack Daniel’s 12-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 3 and 10-Year-Old Batch 4.

“When we released our first Jack Daniel’s 10-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey a few years ago, we set out to honor the legacy of Jack Daniel himself and replicate the lineup of age-stated whiskeys available during his time,” said Chris Fletcher, Master Distiller at the Jack Daniel Distillery. “This year’s releases build upon that as we re-introduce our new 14-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskey, the oldest age-statement for Jack Daniel’s in the last 100 years or more. These whiskeys really showcase how a little extra time in our barrels is capable of producing something so special.”

Jack Daniel’s 12-Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 3 is offered at 107 proof, while  Jack Daniel’s 10-Year Old Tennessee Whiskey Batch 4 is offered at 97 proof.

Jack Daniel’s 14-, 12-, and 10-Year-Old Tennessee Whiskeys are available in limited quantities for $149.99, $94.99 and $84.99, respectively.

The Jack Daniel Distillery introduces Distillery Series Selection #13, a Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey twice barreled in new, charred American white oak barrels.

Like all Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Rye Whiskeys, the latest Distillery Series expression has a grain bill of 70% rye, 12% malted barley and 18% corn. The rye whiskey is charcoal mellowed before being matured in a new, charred American white oak barrel. After maturation, the rye whiskey was entered into a second new, charred American white oak barrel for an additional two and half years.

“Our Tennessee Rye is a take on rye whiskey that is uniquely Jack Daniel’s. The 70% rye grain bill allows the whiskey to shine through with just the right amount of spiciness and boldness,” said Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller. “We’re excited to add a limited-edition expression to our rye lineup with this release, which introduces the whiskey to a second barreling to create a profile with even more depth and character.”

Selected by Whiskey Taster Jason Marski, Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series Twice Barreled Tennessee Straight Rye Whiskey is bottled at 107 proof  in 375ml bottles. It is available in select stores in Tennessee and at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop at the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tenn. for $41.99.

The Jack Daniel Distillery has introduced Distillery Series Selection #12, a Straight Tennessee Whiskey Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks.

Like all Jack Daniel’s expressions, the latest expression has a grain bill of 80% corn, 12% malted barley, and 8% rye and is charcoal mellowed before entering into new, charred American white oak barrels. Once fully matured, the whiskey was then finished in Oloroso Sherry casks for an additional three years and bottled at 90 proof. It was selected by Jack Daniel’s Whiskey Taster Randall Fanning, who recently retired after nearly 50 years with the brand,

“We first used Oloroso Sherry Casks with our American Single Malt, and it was only natural to continue experimenting with them to craft innovations that only Jack Daniel’s could,” said Chris Fletcher, Jack Daniel’s Master Distiller. “What resulted was something completely unique that further elevates the complexity of Old No. 7 but maintains a balanced profile. We can’t wait for our friends to try what we believe is the perfect sip for the season.”

Jack Daniel’s Distillery Series Straight Tennessee Whiskey Finished in Oloroso Sherry Casks is available in select stores in Tennessee and at the White Rabbit Bottle Shop at the Jack Daniel Distillery for $41.99.

Gentleman Jack Double Mellowed Tennessee Whiskey has launched Gentleman Jack Culture Shakers, a national program designed to celebrate the contributions Black and Latino bartenders continue to make to the spirits industry.

In its first year, six bartenders from around the country (Atlanta, Chicago, Detroit, Miami, New York, and Seattle) have been selected to showcase their craft by paying homage to industry trailblazers, drawing inspiration from their roots, and celebrating their unique cultures through the art of mixology.

“Through Culture Shakers, Gentleman Jack honors creators who take the extra step in their craft and strive to leave a legacy within their communities,” said Keenan Harris, Jack Daniel’s Senior Multicultural Marketing Manager.

This year’s Culture Shakers include New York’s Shannon Mustipher, Miami’s Santiago Vazquez Cuberos, Atlanta’s Myia Butler, Seattle’s  Derek Jeffries, Chicago’s David Leon, and Detroit’s Asher Miller.

Their stories have be captured by Jamaican filmmaker Storm Saulter, and shared at local events in their hometowns.

“As a filmmaker and visual artist of color, I find it critical to capture our voices and histories in a way that unwraps complex social and cultural dynamics,” said Saulter. “I’m excited to work with Gentleman Jack on this compelling storytelling opportunity of Black and Latinx cocktail culture using my passion of film to do so.”

To further pay tribute to the historical impact multicultural bartenders have on the cocktail industry, Gentleman Jack has partnered with Black Bottom Saints author Alice Randall. Her book explores Detroit as the epicenter of mid-century American Black cocktail culture. “African-Americans have played a central, but often unheralded, role in the development of the cocktail, the cocktail bar, and cocktail culture,” said Randall. “Thomas Bullock and Ada “Bricktop” Smith are each viable candidates if we want to claim one person who has made a greater impact on the cocktail than any other single person.”

In honor of Randall’s partnership with Gentleman Jack Culture Shakers, Jack Daniel’s enlisted national brand ambassador Eric Tecosky to curate a special cocktail, the Black Bottom Old Fashioned (seen above), aligned with Black Bottom Saints.

Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey is making history once again. The distillery, named after the first known African-American master distiller Nearest Green, recently announced that “Phase One” of its Nearest Green Distillery will open next Saturday (Sept. 14) in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

During Phase One, visitors to the distillery will see the first of what is to be built on the 270-acre property including a Tennessee Walking Horse experience, its retail store, the bottling house — visitors to take part in labeling the whiskey sold — and the Welcome House, complete with a custom-made horseshoe bar. This bar will be the only place in the world with tastings of all four expressions of Uncle Nearest: Uncle Nearest 1856 Premium Whiskey, Uncle Nearest 1884 Premium Small Batch Whiskey, Uncle Nearest 1820 Premium Single Barrel Whiskey and Nathan Green 1870 Premium Single Barrel Whiskey.

Once fully open, it will not only serve as a working distillery, but will pay homage to Green and the many other innovators and innovations from Tennessee. The new distillery is the first in the United States to commemorate an African-American whiskey maker.

“When I went to write the invitations for the distillery opening, tears began to stream down my face,” said Fawn Weaver, co-founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest. “I’m not a person who cries often, but something about this history just chokes me up. When I wrote the opening line, ‘If Nearest Green could have owned his own distillery, would he have?’ I could only think of this incredible master distiller that likely never had the chance. And posthumously, we are working to ensure his name is cemented in the hearts and minds of people around the world for generations to come. The Nearest Green Distillery is his legacy and that of his descendants. Being able to bring that to life, quite frankly, still blows my mind.”

To build out the distillery, Weaver has brought together a team of the most reputable designers and builders in the business. The overall design and visitor experience for the Nearest Green Distillery is being overseen by Peggy Noe Stevens & Associates. Stevens is the first female master bourbon taster, founder of Bourbon Women and co-founder of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. Thom Meek of GHP Environmental + Architecture and former Tennessee Walking Horse champion was brought on in 2017 to help bring this distillery vision to life and continues to serve as the architect on the project.

Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey had made quite the name for itself in the last year, highlighting the man who taught Jack Daniel how to distill. Now, that story has come to the big screen. “The Story of Nearest Green” recently premiered in NYC at the Tribeca Film Center.

Directed by David Poag and narrated by xx Jeffrey Wright, the film takes place in the renovated Dan Call farmhouse on the very property where Nathan “Nearest” Green worked in a distillery as head stiller (now known as a master distiller), and where Jack Daniel lived and worked as a chore boy. The house featured in the film, is the same one featured on their bottles. It tells the once lost story and legacy of Green that has now been revived, and highlights the camaraderie and partnership between Green and Daniel.

Wright mingled with guests and spoke to the film. Wright’s relationship with the brand began when he read the same story as Fawn did in The New York Times that started this journey. When he heard about everything she was doing to honor Green and his legacy, he had his people track her down. He began evangelizing the whiskey, so when it was time to choose a narrator, he was an easy choice.
