Remus Bourbon has announced the release of Remus Repeal Reserve Series IX Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

The highly anticipated annual release from Ross & Squibb Distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, was aged between 10 and 18 years, and is the highest proof ever for the series at 104 proof.

Crafted to honor the repeal of Prohibition in 1933, Ross & Squibb Master Distiller Ian Stirsman selected barrels of high rye bourbon to create this year’s edition. Remus Repeal Reserve IX includes 7% of an 18-year-aged bourbon containing 21% rye; 26% of an 11-year-aged bourbon comprising 36% rye; 23% of a 10-year-aged bourbon containing 36% rye; and 44% of a second 10-year-aged bourbon comprising 21% rye.

“Bourbon fans have always expected something new from each edition of Remus Repeal Reserve,” said Ross & Squibb Master Distiller Ian Stirsman. “That’s why for Remus Repeal Reserve Series IX, we found some of our most unique barrels to date. After finalizing the blend, we blind-tasted it at different proofs to ensure we provide fans with the unique experience they expect. In the end, we believe the 104 proof, combined with 10-18-year-old bourbons, did just that.”

Remus Repeal Reserve Series IX Straight Bourbon Whiskey is available in limited supply for $99.99.

Remus Bourbon has “returned to the plate” with its 2025 Remus Babe Ruth Reserve, the next chapter of its partnership with the Babe Ruth family.

The expression features three high-rye bourbon mash bills– inspired by Ruth’s #3 –which include specially selected barrels distilled in 2016 and 2017, comprising 44% rye, 49% rye and 36% rye bourbons, respectively. It was bottled at 111 proof.

“We’re honored to pay homage to one of baseball’s icons with our latest collector’s release of Remus Babe Ruth Reserve,” said Ian Stirsman, Master Distiller of Ross & Squibb Distillery. “Our 2025 edition is masterfully crafted and is sure to give baseball fans and high-rye bourbon lovers a unique and memorable way to celebrate America’s pastime and its most legendary player.”

“The estate of Babe Ruth is thrilled to once again collaborate with Ross & Squibb Distillery on the limited edition 2025 Remus Babe Ruth Reserve,” added Tom Stevens, grandson of Babe Ruth. “Babe Ruth is synonymous with excellence, and Remus upholds this standard with each uniquely presented bottle. We are confident that collectors and baseball fans alike will conclude that Remus hit another home run with this special release. Babe would be proud.”

The 2025 edition of Remus Babe Ruth Reserve is packaged in a rectangular art deco-inspired glass bottle featuring an embossed baseball-diamond pattern and baseball bat knob wooden-cork closure. The front and back labels incorporate Ruth’s iconic signature, pinstripes, and elements of a baseball diamond. A QR code on the back label allows consumers to scan and find out what Ruth did in the game of their bottle’s at bat.

A limited supply of 8,399 bottles, one for each of the Babe’s at-bats, 2025 Remus Babe Ruth Reserve is available for $149.99.

Last week, I wrote about my trip to MGP Distillery in which I tasted some unreleased whiskey. Well, in a few months, you can taste Remus Repeal Reserve Series IV Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Series IV is a limited annual release and reaches full distribution by Prohibition Repeal Day, December 5. In response to growing demand, Remus Repeal Reserve Series IV is planning an early fall release (timed with National Bourbon Month in September), and will roll out with a series of consumer tastings and events with special focus on the birthdate of George Remus (November 13) and Prohibition Repeal Day (December 5).

“Now in its fourth year, our Remus Repeal Reserve program has exceeded expectations and allows us to showcase the character of our extensive, aged bourbon reserves and blending expertise,” says Andrew Mansinne, Vice President of Brands, MGP. “Series IV delivers a bold, high-rye character and a beautifully balanced profile that reflects 12 years of age. We’re delighted to offer our next release earlier this fall to respond to consumer demand, and will also support an extensive tasting and education effort throughout our growing distribution network.”

Remus Repeal Reserve is an annual series from George Remus Bourbon. Made in a signature high-rye style, the medley changes each year allowing the distillery team to experiment with their various mash bills and cask-aged reserves. Remus Repeal Reserve Series IV showcases a medley of two mash bills from 2008. It is comprised of 77% Bourbon (21% Rye) and 23% Bourbon (36% Rye).

Previous releases of Remus Repeal Reserve have achieved some of the highest recognition in the Bourbon category, including a Double Gold in the 2019 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and 98 points from Tasting Panel magazine for Remus Repeal Reserve Series III.

Remus Repeal Reserve Series IV will retail for $84.99 and will be available in September.

MGP Opens Doors For Rare Visit https://thewhiskeylifestyle.com/mgp-distillery-opens-doors-for-rare-visit/ Thu, 25 Jun 2020 00:21:26 +0000 http://www.thewhiskeylifestyle.com/?p=6478 A few months ago, we took a tour of the MGP Ingredients’ Distillery to taste its entire Rack…

A few months ago, we took a tour of the MGP Ingredients’ Distillery to taste its entire Rack House Series as well as some yet to be released expressions. And while we’ve been on our fair share of distillery tours, this one was different (and not just because it was the last one we did before COVID).

A few times each year, MGP open its doors to private media tours led by the master distillery team. For a visual, think a boozy Willy Wonka situation.

Even if you don’t know MGP, you’ve likely had its whiskey. One of the most historic distilleries in the country, they’ve either made or make some of today’s biggest bourbons and ryes. Their location in Lawrenceburg, Indiana is over 170 years old and is a leading supplier of bourbons, whiskeys, distilled gins and vodka. They’re also the largest U.S. supplier of rye whiskey. So, know you know.

Check out my photo diary below. Click any image to expand and see captions.

[ngg src=”galleries” ids=”16″ display=”basic_slideshow” autoplay=”0″ arrows=”1″]The distillery’s Rack House Series first was George Remus Bourbon. Named after the “King of the Bootleggers,” Remus was a Chicago lawyer who moved to Cincinnati and created one of the most successful bootlegging operations of the Prohibition era. In fact, many say that the titular character of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby was inspired by Remus.

Remus was followed by Rossville Union Rye. The story of the brand It began in 1847 when George Ross opened the Rossville Distillery in Lawrenceburg. Given the city’s history with rye and MGP’s reputation for making rye, it only makes sense that they made their own.

In addition to Remus and Rossville Union, MGP also produces Eight & Sand Blended Bourbon Whiskey and Till American Wheat Vodka. The former is the newest member of the series and is a blend of bourbon and whiskies married to create a smooth spirit made for cocktails. Eight & Sand refers to the eighth notch on a locomotive’s throttle (it’s also the fastest) and the sand used on the wheels to prevent slipping. To wish a train crew an “Eight & Sand” is akin to “smooth sailing.” Till (yes, we know it’s a vodka) is created from Kansas wheat – considered the world’s finest – sourced from the best farms in the region. Their proprietary distilling process has been perfected over 75 years.

Special thanks to our friends at George Remus Bourbon, Rossville Union Rye and Till Vodka for having us!

MGP will release Remus Volstead Reserve Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a rare, reserve bourbon later this year.

The new release coincides with the 100th anniversary of the start of National Prohibition, under the Volstead Act, that enforced the 18th Amendment outlawing the production and distribution of alcoholic spirits in the U.S.

“Prohibition launched an era of social change which created legends such as George Remus, King of the Bootleggers, and a speakeasy culture that persists to this day,” says Andrew Mansinne, Vice President of Brands, MGP Ingredients. “Remus Volstead Reserve is made from our finest 14-year aged reserves and has spent the same time in barrel as this country spent under Prohibition. Like this singular historic era, our Volstead Reserve is one-of-a-kind.”

Remus Volstead Reserve is bottled-in-bond from 2005 bourbons crafted at MGP’s historic distillery in Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and bottled at 100-proof. Its packaging is designed for collectors with a high-end glass bottle and commemorative box. This limited, 2005-aged reserve bourbon will never be repeated and no more than 500 9-liter cases will be available for markets where George Remus Bourbon is currently sold.

Due to hit shelves in November, Remus Volstead Reserve is said to retail for $199.99.
