The Glenlivet is reimagining its iconic 12 Year Old single malt with the launch of Beyond Speyside, a new series featuring whiskies inspired by global destinations.

The inaugural release, The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Jamaica Edition, offers a tropical twist on the distillery’s signature style through a selective finish in casks that previously held Jamaican rum.

“Exploration lies at the heart of The Glenlivet,” said The Glenlivet Cask Master Kevin Balmforth. “Guided by a spirit of curiosity, we venture beyond tradition to uncover remarkable taste experiences. We’ve long been known for our smooth, refined style – and with The Glenlivet Jamaica Edition, we’re offering a fresh take on that legacy.”

The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Jamaica Edition is the first expression in the new Beyond Speyside series, in which each release will offer a journey to iconic destinations, bringing the element of terroir to cask finishes. “For centuries, the single malt Scotch category has been associated with luxury, prestige and status,” said Pernod Ricard USA Vice President Marketing Kristen Colonna. “As the codes of luxury evolve, today’s discerning whisky drinker is seeking new experiences and flavors that celebrate individuality, curiosity and the joy of discovering something newAs a leader in single malt Scotch whisky in the US, The Glenlivet is committed to modernizing the category while maintaining its craft.”

To bring the first journey of Beyond Speyside to life, The Glenlivet is once again teaming up with Scottish actor and brand ambassador Thomas Doherty as he explores the cultural flavor of Jamaica in a new campaign styled by Jamaican-Scottish designer Nicholas Daley.

Doherty immersed himself into Jamaican culture in new creative content by exploring the the island with former Miss Universe Jamaica Miqueal-Symone Williams. “My partnership with The Glenlivet has always been about honoring Scottish craft while embracing the transformative power of journeying beyond the expected,” Thomas Doherty said. “There is such a vibrancy to The Glenlivet Jamaica Edition, so I’m proud to continue my partnership with The Glenlivet in celebration of this new release.”

The content embodies the convergence of Scottish heritage and Jamaican vibrancy represented in The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Jamaica Edition through its fashion as styled by Daley. The purposeful styling influenced by his own multicultural roots marks the start of a collaboration between the brand and the creator. The collaboration will include a capsule collection launching next year, featuring The Glenlivet tartan on travel pieces.

“My dual heritage is what inspires my work. From Scotland, I take inspiration from the traditions of craft, knitwear and tartan. From Jamaica, I draw on the colors, the vibrancy of sound system culture and the energy of reggae,” Nicholas Daley said. “The Glenlivet Jamaica Edition was born in Speyside and inspired by Jamaica, and that’s the same approach I took to style this campaign, choosing clothes that featured the signature patterns and textiles of Scotland with the vibrant colors and silhouettes inspired by Jamaica.”

To further enhance the taste experience, The Glenlivet has partnered with Jamaican-American chef DeVonn Francis to create a series of recipes featuring tastes of the island and designed to complement The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Jamaica Edition.

“Studying Jamaican foodways taught me to see heritage as something alive and rooted in history but also evolving,” said DeVonn Francis. “When creating these recipes I was inspired by the profile of the liquid itself, separating The Glenlivet 12 Year Old Jamaica Edition into its individual flavor notes to find the perfect ingredient pairings from both Scottish and Jamaican cuisines. I wanted the food to come as a ‘best supporting actor’ for the flavors so that you can take a bite of this or that and keep discovering the depths of each note.”

The Glenlivet Jamaica Edition is available for $76.99.

Good things come to those who wait. For the Glenlivet, the oldest legal distillery in Scotland, that adage rang true last week as it introduced a 55 year old single malt scotch whisky, its most aged spirit to date, just in time for its 200th anniversary.

The Glenlivet Eternal Collection, First Edition, 55 Year Old is priced, fittingly at $55,000 a bottle, with only 100 bottles being produced—making it not just Glenlivet’s oldest offering to date, but also its most expensive.

This release, which matured for over five decades before it was finished in a seasoned sherry cask, is the first in an annual series from Glenlivet that will feature limited whiskies made from the same cask; every bottle run of the Eternal Collection will be aged for an additional year, making each new iteration a precious opportunity to partake in whisky history.

For Glenlivet Cask Master Kevin Balmforth—who called working on the whisky the “pinnacle” of his career at the celebration of the release at the brand’s distillery in Ballindalloch—the 55 year old is the embodiment of the distillery’s legacy in the single malt space and its commitment to innovation.

“Thanks to decades of collaboration from our team of cask experts, past and present, the introduction of The Eternal Collection represents a monumental moment for whisky connoisseurs and luxury appreciators to add a pivotal piece of Scotch whisky legacy to their collection,” Balmforth said. “It epitomizes The Glenlivet’s commitment to excellence within Scotch innovation as we continue to push to creative new heights in single malts.”

The 55 year old, which has notes of blackcurrant jam, vanilla fudge and dark chocolate, as well as orange, crystalized ginger and clove spice, is also making waves in the art world, thanks to a partnership with computational architect Michael Hansmeyer. The artist, who drew inspiration for the sculpture from the distillery’s picturesque landscape, especially the River Livet, designed a jesmonite piece with rose gold plating, perfectly shaped to cradle a special edition bottle of the whisky.

“Weaving threads of intelligent technologies to create something that escapes conformity and classification to celebrate such an aged whisky has been a thrill,” Hansmeyer said. “I created this sculpture as a tribute to the complexity of The Glenlivet’s oldest expression and the rugged beauty of the distillery’s Scottish landscape, capturing the spirit of where innovation meets tradition.”

The special edition bottle and sculpture will be available exclusively at auction at Sotheby’s from October 18 to November 1, with all proceeds benefiting the National Trust for Scotland. Hansmeyer’s collaboration with the brand is the first in a series of artists who will be commissioned to create work that speaks to each new release of the Eternal Collection.

The Glenlivet announced the addition of ita Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask Selection to its portfolio of single malt Scotch whiskies. The new expression offers a new taste experience by selectively finishing The Glenlivet’s single malt in bespoke casks that are uniquely crafted by fusing dismantled rum and bourbon barrels.

In what is said to be a first for Scotch, The Glenlivet Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask Selection has been finished in casks crafted from a combination of first-fill rum and bourbon barrels. These hand-selected barrels have been dismantled and reassembled by coopers into one bespoke cask, creating a fusion of flavors. This expression is the first in The Glenlivet Fusion Cask Series.

“This category-first innovation continues our commitment and 200-year legacy of pushing boundaries in whisky,” said Kevin Balmforth, The Glenlivet Cask Expert. “As a team of makers at The Glenlivet, we work closely with our partners at the cooperage to ensure the handmade casks are of the highest quality, and this intricate dismantling and reassembling process to create new bespoke casks ensures a distinctive and expertly-crafted finish.”

Balmforth and the team were drawn to the idea of a fusion cask finish. With an unconventional process, The Glenlivet Fusion Cask is a testament to the distillery’s spirit of craftmanship and innovation.

“The Glenlivet Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask is a welcome addition to our portfolio as we continue our journey to push the single malt category forward,” said Johan Radojewski, Vice President Marketing – Scotch, Irish & Prestige Whisk(e)y, Pernod Ricard USA. “Prestige spirits drinkers in the US are seeking unique and elevated taste experiences, and The Glenlivet Fusion Cask proudly delivers on that demand as we pioneer new depths of flavor through our commitment to craftmanship and innovation.”

The Glenlivet Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask Selection is available now for $105.99.
