Bruichladdich gets spicy with The Laddie Rye, a new and limited-edition rye whisky.

Available exclusively in the United States, the expression has spent the entirety of its maturation life on Islay in a combination of quality first-fill bourbon barrels and first-fill Virgin American Oak casks. It is aged for seven years and bottled at 100 proof. With a distinct mash bill, The Laddie Rye is distilled using a combination of locally grown Islay rye and malting barley.

Beyond expanding the distillery’s diverse cereal growing program, the idea to use rye was born out of the grain’s regenerative properties for the soil. Rye is a beneficial rotational crop that promotes healthy soils, essential for future-proofing the land.

“This whisky couldn’t be more ‘Islay.’ Every single aspect of its creation, from growing and harvesting the rye right through to its final bottling, has been done on our island home,” says Bruichladdich Master Blender Adam Hannett. “Experimenting and pushing boundaries is at the heart of what we do, and The Laddie Rye perfectly embodies that spirit. Distilled using locally grown Islay rye and Islay malting barley, we’ve crafted a signature expression with remarkable depth and complexity, and we’re delighted to invite whisky lovers to experience something truly special with this limited release.”

Bruichladdich’s The Laddie Rye is available now for $59.99.

Bruichladdich revealed Black Art Edition 11, the eleventh annual release in the elusive, limited-edition series.

As in past years, only Bruichladdich Head Distiller Adam Hannett, knows the definitive recipe to Black Art 11. The composition of the casks and their origins remain shrouded in mystery, with only the vintage, age and ABV (88.4 proof) disclosed.

“Each year I welcome the creation of Black Art with open arms,” says Bruichladdich Distillery Head Distiller Adam Hannett. “As a whisky maker, it is liberating to have complete creative freedom. It’s a chance to journey deep into our Islay warehouses and experiment, question, and push the realms of possibility.

“As a whisky brand committed to giving our customers as much information as we possibly can, each Black Art single malt signals a moment of total trust,” he adds. “It’s about putting faith in myself as the whisky maker, but also having trust in the time-honoured craft and the pursuit of unforgettable flavour.”

A 1994 vintage, the 24-year-old single malt has been created using pre-renaissance casks from Bruichladdich Distillery which have been patiently maturing exclusively on Islay for almost three decades.

Since its inception in 2012, Black Art has intrigued whisky fans. The antithesis to the brand’s commitment to total transparency, when the complete recipe of each single malt – including everything from cask type to specific barley varietal and provenance – is revealed, Black Art is created in total secrecy.

Bruichladdich Black Art Edition 11 is available now at bruichladdich.com and selected specialist whisky retailers, priced at $549.99.
