Templeton Distillery unveils its 13-Year-Old Rye Whiskey, the first release from its Hidden Stash collection.

The expression is a tribute to the history of the distillery. Crafted from sourced rye distillate and drawn from Templeton’s aged barrel inventory, Templeton 13-Year-Old is made from a mash bill of 95% rye and 5% malted barley. It is matured in new American oak barrels with a heavy char and bottled at 108 proof.

“The launch of the 13-Year-Old marks a milestone in our aging program, a hidden treasure drawn from some of our finest sourced stocks,” said Shane Fitzharris, Senior Vice President, Global Commercial at Infinium Spirits. “With elevated packaging and some of the rarest, most refined whiskey we’ve released to date, this limited edition highlights Templeton’s commitment to crafting whiskeys that honor our history while reinforcing our position in the premium rye category.”

Since the opening of the Templeton Distillery in 2018, the brand has expanded beyond its flagship rye, developing a combination of sourced and in-house distillates. Recent launches such as Fortitude Bourbon underscore Templeton’s evolution into a full-fledged distiller, while Hidden Stash will highlight the oldest sourced stocks in its warehouses.

Templeton 13-Year-Old Rye Whiskey is now available $169.99.

Templeton Distillery has recently announced the launch of the Templeton Distillery Entrepreneur’s Grant program, which will award three small businesses $10,000 each. The grants are designed to help ignite the spark of these budding companies, just like early producers in the small town of Templeton, Iowa were inspired by the idea to craft what was commonly known as “Templeton Rye” over 100 years ago.

Winners of the grants will be selected by a panel of a few of Iowa natives, including actors Brandon Routh (“Superman Returns”, “Legends Of Tomorrow”) and Hill Harper (“The Good Doctor”). Rounding out the remainder of the panel are Templeton Distillery’s co-founder Keith Kerkhoff as well as the founders of local Iowa-based businesses, Crème Cupcake + Dessert’s Christina Moffatt and BLK & Bold Specialty Beverage’s Pernell Cezar and Rod Johnson. The period to apply will run from now through July 11, with winners announced in August.

All US-based businesses are invited to apply for the Templeton Distillery Entrepreneur’s Grant, excluding those that sell alcohol or are owned by anyone under the age of 21. To enter, businesses will submit 250 words about why they should be considered. Entries will be judged on originality (40%), contributions to the local community (40%), and business viability (20%).

“Ignited by the spark of a simple idea, early producers in the small town of Templeton, Iowa began crafting what was commonly known as ‘Templeton Rye’ at the turn of the 20th century,” said Templeton Distillery Co-founder Keith Kerkhoff. “Now looking to the future as Templeton Distillery, we could not think of a better way to honor this heritage than by supporting small businesses with a little help from some Iowa greats. Also, we are thrilled to introduce an even more premium offering for the fans of Templeton to enjoy when they want to sip something a bit more special.”

The launch of the grant program is timed alongside the debut of Templeton’s new 10 Year Reserve Rye Whiskey, complete with a refreshed look. The newest addition to the core line is the Templeton Rye 10 Year Reserve, with each release bottled from a hand-selected single barrel. The whiskey is aged a full decade in charred new American oak barrels. Every good revival has a way of bringing history into the now, so the new 10 Year Reserve along with the 4 and 6 Year, will be featured in refreshed packaging (see below).

Templeton Rye 10 Year Reserve is now available for $85.

Templeton Rye Whiskey recently announced Caribbean Rum Cask Finish, the 2020 release in their “Barrel Finish Series.”

This limited-edition American straight rye whiskey was originally matured for a period of five years in American oak flame-charred barrels and were specifically chosen from the distillery’s aging sourced stocks of rye whiskey. Once the “chosen” barrels were selected, the whiskey was then finished in ex-dark rum casks from Jamaica. The additional six month maturation time spent in first-fill Caribbean rum casks accentuates the rye spice while adding subtle, exotic flavors and tropical fruit tones.

“We are thrilled to be launching the second limited-edition expression in our Barrel Finish Series following the success of our Maple Cask Finish release last fall,” said Tim Grimes, Senior Brand Ambassador of Templeton Rye. “Quality was key as we wanted to ensure that our secondary maturation would impart the rum characteristics and flavors that we envisioned in the whiskey. We are delighted with the result and look forward to sharing with our fans.”

Templeton Rye Caribbean Rum Cask Finish is available in limited quantities for $44.99-$49.99

In honor of the 100th Anniversary of Prohibition, Templeton Rye is taking over New York.

On Thursday (January 16), Templeton Rye is dispersing newsboys to distribute The Templeton Rye Reader (see below), which contains information about Templeton and its origins as well as the 100th anniversary of prohibition.

New York bars like Rye House, District Local and Morandi invite consumers to enjoy Templeton cocktail specials from Thursday through Sunday (January 19) to celebrate as if it was the day before America went legally dry.

What started as a few folks of Templeton, Iowa cooking rye whiskey in the early 1920s turned into a city-wide operation that got nearly everybody involved in one way or another. Almost all of the 350+ defiant Templeton residents chose to become outlaws — producing a high-caliber and much sought-after whiskey known as Templeton Rye, or “The Good Stuff” to those in the know, and soon, word got out.

Once the country went dry on January 17th, 1920, it wasn’t long before Templeton Rye made its way aboard cattle cars destined for the famed Chicago stockyards and beyond. “The Good Stuff” found favor in notorious speakeasies across the nation, and shortly after that, Templeton was supplying bootleggers with kegs of their much sought-after rye whiskey.

Good whiskey is coming from all over the U.S. Case in point, Iowa’s Templeton Rye Whiskey. They announced the launch of a new limited edition expression, Barrel Strength Straight Rye Whiskey.

Natural, non-chill filtered and bottled at 57.2% ABV, the newest addition to the Templeton portfolio is barrel strength, matured and aged in flame charred American oak barrels with rye spice and black pepper. The whiskey pays homage to the town of Templeton, “a small town with a strong spirit.”

Introduced in 2006, Templeton is said to date back to the early 1920s when residents of the town distilled a “much sought-after” rye. Forced underground during the Prohibition, their bootlegging enterprise flourished during that period. Today, the whiskey is made slightly different, instead of in basements and barns, the company has a modern, legal plant.

Last August, the distiller hosted a grand opening event to celebrate the organization’s new 34,500 square-foot distillery, a $35 million project that will more than double its staff, bringing 17 jobs to a community of 350 residents, feature a museum and visitor center, and produce up to 500,000 proof gallons of rye whiskey annually.

Templeton Rye Barrel Strength Straight Rye Whiskey is now available at a suggested retail price of $59.99.
