Sazerac de Forge & Fils Cognac has unveiled three new expressions crafted to capture the essence of Cognac as it was centuries ago.

Sazerac de Forge XO consists of selected eaux-de-vie to showcase a blend that is 86 proof and includes Cognacs aged for over two decades in French oak barrels. As the flagship expression from domaine, the XO bottle features a rounded silhouette of clear glass that showcases the spirit’s golden hue. A natural cork stopper with a wooden cap and a satin blue ribbon, resurrecting the ‘Sazerac Blue’ hue once stamped on chinaware exported worldwide from the original Sazerac de Forge pottery house.

The first vintage release from Sazerac de Forge & Fils Cognac, Grande Champagne 2000 represents over two decades of maturation in the soils of Cognac’s most celebrated cru. Distilled from a single harvest and matured in French oak barrels without blending, it is bottled at 89.6 proof. The bottle, made of clear glass with a curved silhouette and natural cork stopper, is complemented by a matching carton detailed in cream and blue with gold accents.

An blend of three rare vintage eaux-de-vie distilled in 1970, 1971, and 1974, Sazerac de Forge 50-Year-Old is the domaine’s oldest expression to date. Each vintage was hand-sealed in wax and left undisturbed for more than fifty years in small French oak barrels before being blended and bottled at 86 proof. The decanter, formed from curved crystal glass with a matching lid and the Sazerac de Forge family crest etched in gold, pays homage to the original Cognac domaine.

“At Sazerac de Forge, every expression is crafted with care to showcase the unique character of its carefully selected eaux-de-vie,” says Sazerac de Forge & Fils Cellar Master Denis Lahouratate. “Our blends are patiently shaped over time, developing complexity and depth. Others are released as vintages, capturing their singular qualities. In every case, the goal is the same: a Cognac that reveals individuality and artistry.”

“Cognac’s richness lies not only in flavor, but also in the generations of knowledge behind its craft,” adds Jess Scheerhorn, Vice President, Sazerac de Forge. “We created these expressions for those who seek to experience Cognac the way it was originally intended in 1782.”

Revived in 2019 by, owners of Buffalo Trace Distillery and Hawk’s Rock Distillery, Sazerac de Forge & Fils carries forward the legacy of the 1782 domaine founded by Bernard Sazerac de Forge. The pioneering house earned a reputation for refinement, shipping Cognac across Europe and America and lending its name to the famed Sazerac cocktail of New Orleans before fading in the late 19th century during the phylloxera epidemic. Today’s domaine cultivates its estate in Segonzac, the heart of Grande Champagne, using organic practices and a diversity of grape varietals. Beyond the estate, it curates rare, aged stocks from across the region, inspired by the methods and character of pre-phylloxera Cognacs.

Sazerac de Forge XO is now available for $149.99. Sazerac de Forge Grande Champagne 2000 is available for $449.99. Sazerac de Forge 50-Year-Old is available now for $3,999.99.

Dobel Tequila has just released its Tahona Tequila Blanco, an artisanal, 100% organic Blanco tequila that embraces the traditional tahona process, in the U.S.

To craft this expression, a large volcanic stone wheel, known as a tahona, slowly crushes the masonry oven-cooked agave hearts to extract the liquid, which then undergoes a fermentation process. This method of production preserves the natural sweetness and complex character of the organic agave, as the juices and agave fibers are fermented together over six to seven days in wood-lined, open-air vats, utilizing wild ambient yeast. After fermentation, the liquid is double-distilled in small, copper pot stills. The result is an 81 proof Blanco tequila that can be enjoyed neat or in a classic cocktail.

“Dobel Tahona Tequila Blanco is more than just a new expression; it’s a tribute to the heritage of tequila-making and the passion that has guided our craft for generations,” said Alejandro Coronado, Maestro Tequilero of Dobel Tequila. “By embracing the traditional tahona method – slowly steam roasting the mature organic agave in masonry ovens, then manually unloading it and slowly crushing it with the tahona stone wheel – we are honoring the traditions set forth by past Tequileros. One of the key elements in this process, beyond the tahona itself, is the use of natural fermentation with bagasse, which plays a crucial role in developing the tequila’s complexity and character. We’re creating a tequila that meets the expectations of those wanting to discover more about Mexico’s cultural spirit. It’s smooth, complex, and deeply rooted in the legacy of Jalisco and our Dobel Tequila family.”

All profits from Dobel Tahona Tequila Blanco will support local Jalisco community and education programs, giving back to the town of Tequila, Mexico:, the birthplace of the spirit and home to the families and artisans who make Dobel Tequila possible.

Founded by 11th-generation tequila master Juan Dobel, Dobel Tequila fuses heritage and bold innovation with a quality-driven approach. Every drop is crafted from the brand’s own 100% organic blue weber agave, grown with care for over six years on a single estate in the volcanic valley of Tequila, Jalisco. Dobel Tahona Tequila Blanco features just three ingredients – 100% organic agave, water, and wild yeast.

Dobel Tahona Tequila Blanco is now available for $47.99.

Sauvage Distillery takes its Upstate Vodka to the next level with Black Oxford, a limited-edition expression distilled exclusively from the rare heirloom Black Oxford purple apple.

First discovered in Oxford County, Maine, around 1790 by Nathaniel Haskell, the Black Oxford apple is revered for its dramatic deep purple hue, dense texture, and rich, complex flavor. Today, it remains one of the rarest heirloom apple varieties in existence, cultivated in extremely limited quantities.

Each bottle is crafted from approximately 75 hand-selected Black Oxford apples, sourced from select New England orchards. Distilled by Head Distiller Jamie Terk, on the Sauvage’s 150-gallon single-column still – the same that produced the very first bottle of Upstate Vodka.

“Working with the rare Black Oxford apple was an extraordinary opportunity to marry our deep-rooted expertise in apple distilling with a fruit of remarkable heritage,” said Sauvage Distillery Head Distiller Jamie Terk. “Every step – from sourcing to the final cut – honors its legacy while revealing new dimensions of flavor. The result is a micro-batch spirit of exceptional finesse, with layers of ripe orchard fruit and soft florals unfolding into soft notes of honeyed grain. Coupled with the lingering finish of crisp apple, our latest expression is complex and incredibly unique for a vodka: a testament to what can be achieved when rarity meets relentless craftsmanship.”

Upstate Vodka Black Oxford is housed in a handcrafted wooden box with a deep purple hue, engraved metallic gold lettering, brass hardware and a black satin lining inside frame the bottle.

“At Sauvage innovation is born from respect for heritage,” says Ilio Mavlyanov, CEO & Founder of Sauvage Distillery. “The Black Oxford apple is an heirloom treasure and reimagining it through our lens of distilling craftsmanship allowed us to create a spirit that feels both timeless and groundbreaking. It’s a rare intersection of history, artistry, and forward-thinking distilling—crafted for those who seek the extraordinary.”

Only 32 bottles of Sauvage Distillery’s Upstate Vodka Black Oxford are available for $500.

Dama Fortuna, a new tequila made by a scotch whisky expert, has just hit the market.

Spanish for “Lady Luck,” Dama Fortuna Blanco Tequila is crafted from 100% Blue Weber Agave using traditional production methods and is 80 proof. It is crafted at Casa Loy (NOM 1633), located in the hills of Ayotlán in the Los Altos region of Jalisco, and is made from fully mature agave cultivated at a single 15,000-acre estate situated between 4,500 and 6,000 feet above sea level. The agave is cooked in brick ovens and extracted using an expeller screw machine process. It is then fermented without fibers in open-air, stainless-steel tanks for 72 hours before double-distillation in stainless steel, copper coil-lined stills.

Dama Fortuna is the latest product from Its Founder, Euan Shand, who grew up in the scotch whisky world. He began his career as a cooper and warehouseman at GlenDronach, and later helmed independent bottler Duncan Taylor, Ltd. Now turning his focus to tequila, Shand brings decades of industry experience with a commitment to premium production.

In 2023, Shand, along with his wife Moji and business partner Peter Currie, traveled to Guadalajara visiting a variety of distilleries and meeting with tequila producers. While they collectively acknowledge and appreciate the storied and successful history of tequila, they noticed an opportunity to impart knowledge about the effects of maturation from the use of quality oak casks.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to take my passion for oak finishing and barrel programs from the often-tempestuous Scottish climate to sunny Mexico,” says Shand Import Founder Euan Shand. “We’ve got some incredible casks in our inventory – from ex-sherry and ex-bourbon to Old & Rare Scotch casks. We’ll put these to good use with future Dama Fortuna tequila releases.”

As Dama Fortuna expands its range of tequilas with the addition of aged agave spirits, Shand will apply his cooperage knowledge and global barrel access to innovate the oak aging program for Dama Fortuna. Future releases will include Reposado, Añejo, and Extra Añejo expressions, along with single cask and limited editions.

The idea for Dama Fortuna sprang from Shand’s passion for motor sports. An ardent car enthusiast, Shand frequently travels the world to watch races – with a particular affinity for Le Mans. Dama Fortuna was created to bring luck, as he pursues his dual passion for launching an exciting, new tequila and racing a car at his favorite motor sports competition in France.

Dama Fortuna Blanco Tequila is available for purchase for that retails for $45.99 in California and Nevada, and online at findgoodspirits.com.

The post Iconic Rum Brand Goes Coconuts For New Name appeared first on The Whiskey Lifestyle.

]]>
Maison Ferrand and West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) have announced the global release of Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut Rum, a 100% Barbadian artisanal rum infused with locally sourced coconut, available for the first time outside of the Caribbean.

If the brand looks familiar, you’re not seeing things. Cut & Dry Coconut Rum was launched as the first rum under Planteray, formerly known as Plantation Rum. The name ‘Planteray’ embodies the brand’s identity and core symbols that have adorned bottles for more than 25 years. This name pays homage to sugarcane, the plant that gives birth to the rum, and the sun’s rays that are essential for sugarcane growth and ripening.

To capture the essence of Barbados, the birthplace of rum, WIRD partnered with local coconut farmers who have been cultivating delicious coconuts for generations. “Our partnership with our local coconut farmers promotes Barbados as a hub for premium craft products, as well as celebrate Barbados’ rich heritage,” says Andrew Hassell, West Indies Rum Distillery’s Managing Director. “The distillery has been the backbone of the local rum industry for more than 130 years and we invest in our community. We are proud to source local molasses and coconuts to produce Planteray Cut & Dry, a true product of Barbados.”

WIRD joined forces with the Caribbean Agriculture Research and Development Institute (CARDI) and the International Trade Centre’s Alliances for Action program to work with local farmers in Barbados, fostering the growth of the agriculture sector and ensuring a sustainable supply of coconuts for rum production. The partnerships supports Barbados businesses and sustainable agriculture initiatives and celebrate its heritage. WIRD’s goal is to guarantee that Cut & Dry is always a 100% Barbados product

Handpicked at the peak of maturity, the white flesh of the coconut is meticulously cut and dried, preserving the pure coconut flavor. The flesh is then infused in Barbados rums, creating an expression that perfectly blends the rich flavors of Bajan rum with the tropical goodness of farm-fresh coconuts.

“It took four years of experimentation and 97 recipes to find the winning method and combination of ingredients sourced from our neighbors, using natural white coconut flesh infused in our delicious Barbados rum,” says Alexandre Gabriel, Owner and Master Blender of Maison Ferrand and West Indies Rum Distillery. “It took Andrew Hassel an extra two years to secure enough coconuts for our export markets. We won’t be able to produce very big quantities because Cut & Dry is hand-made and the coconuts need to grow, and you can’t speed that up. Nature needs to do its work.”

The decision to rename the brand was prompted by the brand’s announcement in July 2020 to evolve its name, reflecting an acknowledgment of the potentially negative connotations associated with the term ‘”plantation.”

“From today forward, the evolution from Plantation to Planteray begins,” said Gabriel. “It was a long journey of trademarking a name that reflects our brand ethos in 120 countries. Naturally, the rum we have proudly produced for more than 25 years remains exactly the same and will still be produced with the same expertise, attention and care but now as Planteray Rum. We remain wholeheartedly committed to make the same exceptional rum from Barbados and some of the greatest rum terroirs in the world.”

Planteray Cut & Dry Coconut Rum is available for $35.

2024 marks the 300th anniversary for the House of Rémy Martin. To celebrate, the House will connect past, present and future with a year of special activities around the theme ‘We Dream Forward’ and the release of its 300th Anniversary Coupe.

This special release was created by Cellar Master Baptiste Loiseau (seen above) from the Rémy Martin “Réserve Perpétuelle”, a collection of exceptional eaux-de-vie exclusively from the Grande Champagne terroir, saved and passed forward by generations of Cellar Masters. Located in the center of the Cognac region, Grande Champagne is known for the exceptional aromatic quality and aging potential of its eaux-de-vie.

For the 300th Anniversary Coupe, Loiseau drew on the previous Coupe of the 290th Anniversary (which was enhanced by the eaux-de-vie from the 275th Anniversary Coupe) and enriched this collective work with its own selection of eaux-de-vie from Grande Champagne. His creation forges a link between past and present; between generations of talent always dreaming forward.

“The perpetual reserve is as much a process as a legacy. When a new blend is created, part of it is set aside for future cellar masters. In turn, they will use it for the next Anniversary Coupe,” says Baptiste Loiseau, Cellar Master of the House of Rémy Martin. “To create the 300th Anniversary Coupe, I have come to enrich this blend the treasures of our cellars and Grande Champagne terroir, which will be the legacy I leave to the next generation. By reserving some eaux-de-vie from this precious Coupe 300th Anniversary, the story will continue for future generations.”

Inspired by the iconic shape of the 250th Anniversary Coupe created in 1974, the glass carafe is enhanced with embossed lines, symbolizing the forward motion of the Rémy Martin Centaur’s javelin, the emblem of the House since 1870. The carafe is presented in a bespoke wooden case containing a special note from the Cellar Master and a unique QR code to access exclusive digital content on www.RemyMartin.com.

Available for pre-order now and in stores in March, only 6,724 individually numbered bottles of Rémy Martin’s 300th Anniversary Coupe will be released worldwide – 1,000 of those available in the U.S.

The post Martingale Makes Its Debut appeared first on The Whiskey Lifestyle.

]]>
Launching a new cognac brand is not easy–even if your domaine (our house) has made it for some of the biggest brands in the world. However, guided by legacy and providence, two cousins recently launched Martingale Cognac.

Rooted in a century of tradition and and inspired by their family’s shared vision, Martingale was created by Founder/CEO Guillaume Thomas and Co-Founder and Master Blender Amaury Thomas, fourth-generation custodians of one of the most coveted domaines in the Cognac appellation. The Thomas cousins invited Andrew Weir, Co-Founder, Chief Commercial and Marketing Officer, on this journey to double down on the family legacy. Martingale marks the first ever branded consumer product from this esteemed domaine, despite their century-long history of making the finest Cognac for some of the most prestigious houses.

Guillaume, who spent 18 years in executive leadership roles within Pernod Ricard, was inspired to launch this venture to fulfill his family dream. “Our grandfather, Raymond, was a restless visionary and true entrepreneur,” says Martingale Cognac Founder/CEO Guillaume Thomas. “He was an important figure in the history of Cognac having helped sustain the protected status of the appellation through the post-war era. When faced with obstacles, instead of backing down, he doubled down and found his own martingale, his own recipe for success: hard work, genuine relationships, skills, and craft in Cognac making. We now have everything we need and while my while my grandfather didn’t get to embark on this journey, he was entrusting us as the next generation to create an exceptional Cognac from our own estate. It’s important for us to make our family proud and we embrace the new challenge and expectation to do just that.”

“We supply some of the most prestigious brands in Cognac and have built one of the most coveted vineyards and distilleries in the region,” adds Martingale Cognac Co-Founder and Master Blender Amaury Thomas, an agricultural engineer who has spent over a decade managing the family operations in Cognac. “In honor of my grandfather and our family’s ongoing success in Cognac, we have decided to select some of our finest eaux-de-vie to blend, brand and bottle for the very first time. Our grandfather always encouraged us to be bold and creative. To honor that, we have artfully selected and balanced eaux-de-vie from the top four crus in the area, ultimately creating a unique blend that is tailored to the tastes of this generation; one which delivers a fresher and more fragrant style of Cognac.”

With an innate entrepreneurial spirit, Weir’s hard work paved the way for this unique collaboration. With over 15 years of marketing and general management of building luxury spirits brands like Aberlour in the US, he shares his enthusiasm for Martingale, “This exceptional Cognac has certainly excited me and will energize the industry and consumers alike. Compared to other spirits categories such as premium whiskies and tequila, Cognac has seen relatively lower levels of innovation. Martingale is uniquely placed to augment and disrupt this iconic category. In my experience leading marketing plans and business growth for luxury spirits, I’ve always been drawn to genuine stories. Martingale’s story is quite incredible, from the vineyards to the distillery, the family chateau, and their obsession with quality. I love the paradox of a 100-year-old producer releasing their first ever product with a fresh, creative, and unexpected take. I am incredibly excited for us to share this story and exceptional liquid with the world.”

Through the family’s initial investment and the strength of the business plan, Martingale has garnered the attention of investors like D-Nice, Donnie Wahlberg and more. “Our motivated team and extended family of investors has shown an enormous level of confidence in the opportunity we have before us. We have created a global alliance of passionate individuals eager to embark on this exciting new chapter. This year, my grandfather’s vision and entrepreneurial spirit will be recognized on a whole new level with the unveiling of Martingale,” adds Guillaume.

Martingale Cognac is available now for $120.
