There’s a new bottled-in-bond whiskey in town! High West has officially released its first Bottled-in-Bond expression.

Aged for 5 years and featuring a blend of 80% rye and 20% malted rye for the mashbill, this rye whiskey exemplifies High West’s whiskey-making techniques and processes by adhering to the quality standards set by The Bottled-in-Bond Act of 1897 – the nation’s first consumer protection law that protected people from drinking tainted whiskey.

Crafted at the Utah distillery, its Bottled-in-Bond whiskey is aged for a minimum of four years in a federally bonded warehouse and bottled at 100 proof.

High West’s Bottled-In-Bond Rye Whiskey is available for $79.99.

I will always write about Shauns… especially when they spell their names right. So, when three-time Olympic gold medalist and professional snowboarder Shaun White teamed with High West, the Park City-based whiskey distillery, to protect and preserve the land they both call home via the latter’s Protect the West platform, I was all about it.

White’s experience growing up on the West Coast shaped his passions, and today his dedication to giving back to the land mirrors that of High West’s. Throughout the partnership, White will lend his voice to High West’s Protect the West initiative, a commitment of $1 million over three years to organizations dedicated to keeping the West wild and preserving its beauty. The Protect the West platform distributes funding to organizations whose efforts fall into three focus areas: the fight against wildfires, protecting winters and wildland conservation.

“High West is all about seeking out adventure, and there’s no better place to do that than the West,” said Shaun White, five-time Olympian and professional snowboarder. “I was lucky enough to grow up exploring this incredible place, learning to snowboard, skateboard and even mountain bike here, and it’s so important to me that people have the same opportunity I once had. It’s pretty cool to be able to team up with not just my favorite whiskey, but one that shares my same passion for preserving the West.”

“You don’t have to look too far outside the doors of our Saloon or Distillery to see the West is in danger,” said Daniel Schear, General Manager of High West. “Like Shaun, High West is a team made up of adventurers who appreciate all the West has to offer, which is why the Protect the West initiative hits home for all of us. Our passion for this cause is only growing, and we’re honored to have Shaun’s support in driving more urgency and action.”

Like White, High West Whiskey approaches whiskey with this same adventurous mentality.

In the words of Major Lazer of Luke Bryan, depending on your musical tastes, “Light it up!” High West has returned with its annual release, Campfire.

Available on shelves nationwide for a limited time only, Campfire is a blend of rye, bourbon and blended Scotch, ranging in age from 4-8 years and bottled at 92 proof. This year’s Campfire batch is the first to be blended with 100% High West own-make rye.

As part of High West’s “Protect the West” initiative and in tandem with this release, High West is donating $50,000 to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation to continue supporting the brave protectors who defend us from fires each and every day.

“Wildfire season in the West is no longer just a season, it’s year-round. As the true whiskey of the West, High West has only become more committed to protecting our backyard,” said Daniel Schear, General Manager of High West. “With the annual release of this year’s Campfire and as part of our Protect the West initiative, we’re once again donating $50,000 to the Wildland Firefighter Foundation, supporting the brave few who run toward these fires. The limited expression is rolling out on shelves now, so we hope you’ll join us in not lighting a campfire, but drinking one instead.”

High West’s Campfire 2023 is available for $79.99.

High West Distillery recently announced the launch of Prairie Dash, a limited-time mobile game crafted in support of long-time partner and non-profit organization, American Prairie. This launch provides whiskey and gaming enthusiasts alike with a chance to give back and help conserve the natural habitat of Montana’s Great Plains.

For every game played, High West will donate $1 to American Prairie, up to $50,000, and one lucky player will win a curated Western adventure to Park City, Utah. Players will compete in a collection of quick-time challenges from the perspective of a pronghorn, North America’s fastest land animal indigenous to the West. During each game, players can use their thumbs to try and reach 61 miles per hour, the speed of the pronghorn, during challenges like clearing debris and slaloming through herds of bison.

In addition to competing, you can also purchase High West’s American Prairie Bourbon with a portion of the proceeds donated to its namesake organization.

“We are committed to celebrating and conserving the beauty and nature of the West, the place we call home. With the launch of Prairie Dash, we’re excited to bring that mission to life and provide both High West loyalists and new brand fans with a chance to take part in the efforts,” said Daniel Schear, General Manager of High West. “American Prairie is truly one of the most fantastic projects of our time, and it’s been an honor to work alongside their team to protect today’s Western habitats for future generations to come. We invite our community to join in on the movement, too, all while enjoying a little friendly competition and sipping on one of our favorites, American Prairie Bourbon.”

High West partnered with American Prairie in 2012 to support the organization on its journey to assemble the largest nature reserve in the lower 48 states. When complete, the Reserve will be approximately 5,000 square miles; larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite and Grand Teton National Parks combined.

“We are excited about this new venture with High West and appreciative of their support of our mission all these years,” said Alison Fox, CEO of American Prairie. “Like us, they are committed to the West’s culture, heritage, and natural beauty and we’re proud to partner with this conservation-minded company.”

Available to play this month only, the winner of Prairie Dash will be announced in July.

High West Distillery & Saloon releases an exclusive rendition of Rendezvous Rye featuring custom artwork crafted by Ed Mell, an artist whose Western landscapes bring to life High West’s signature spirit.

In keeping with the essence of its labels, Mell crafted the new Rendezvous Rye label to reflect a “New West, Meets Old West” aesthetic, focusing on warm earth tones and a contemporary-inspired cowboy scene.

“High West’s newest version of our signature Rendezvous Rye gives whiskey enthusiasts plenty of reasons to toast this season,” High West General Manager Daniel Schear said. “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Ed Mell on the custom label, a look and feel which embodies the spirit of the West in a single bottle.”

This limited edition kicks off High West’s transition of the distillery’s flagship whiskey to a seasonal release. Showcasing the older, more distinguished side of rye, Rendezvous has evolved to include more of High West’s own pot still rye which brings elements of dried fruit, leather, and candied ginger to the final product.

A blend of straight rye whiskeys, this season’s Rendezvous Rye reveals notes of poached pear, bitter orange, ground ginger, lavender, wet sandalwood, and tanned leather on a well-used wooden work bench.

High West Rendezvous Rye is available now at the High West General Store, High West Distillery, or state liquor stores for $69.99. Bottles will be available nationwide in store by the end of May.

High West Distillery recently announced the launch of its first nationally available bottled whiskey cocktails with the release of a Barrel-Finished Manhattan and Barrel-Finished Old Fashioned.

Created by High West’s Master Distiller Brendan Coyle and Beverage Director Steve Walton, each barrel-finished cocktail is formulated using time-tested recipes and high-quality ingredients. The cocktails are then matured in used rye barrels, allowing the flavors to marry for a well-rounded final result.

“Our goal was to embody the essence of these classic cocktails while incorporating our distinct High West flare. With a blend of bourbon and rye as the base, each has a unique added depth that sets them apart from other bottled cocktails,” saya Coyle. “We are proud to introduce them to both whiskey fans and cocktail lovers.”

The Barrel-Finished Old Fashioned features demerara simple syrup for a touch of sweetness, while the Barrel-Finished Manhattan (seen below) includes two types of vermouth. Both best enjoyed over ice, garnish the Old-Fashioned with a lemon and orange twist and the Manhattan with a brandied cherry.

“Our bar program has been the proving ground for these cocktail recipes. We experimented with and served variations on these cocktails from behind the bar for years, ultimately resulting in these final recipes. We developed them to be complex yet balanced, and they can be enjoyed on their own or when paired with food,” says Walton.

Having previously released versions of a Barrel-Finished Boulevardier and Manhattan, High West’s new barrel-finished Manhattan and Old Fashioned cocktails combine both of these High West specialties, offering a premier cocktail experience. High West barrel-finished cocktails are available for a suggested retail price of $49.99 per 750mL bottle (serving approximately 12 cocktails) and $29.99 per 375ml bottle (which serves six cocktails).
