Westland is paying homage to its home state’s craft beer and wine culture again with a Beer Cask Finish and a Wine Cask Finish.

Washington State is well known both for its winemaking and craft brewing traditions, so Westland focused on the two as part of its Cask Exploration Series in its continued commitment to bottling the Pacific Northwest “sense of place.”

Beer Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey Batch No. 2 is made with Westland’s signature five malt and Washington pale malt and matured 6-9 years in New American Oak
and ex-bourbon and ex-rye whiskey barrels. The 92 proof expression is finished in Stout/Porter, Brown Ale, Imperial Munich Lager and Foudre Ale barrels.

Wine Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey Batch No. 2 starts with Westland’s signature five malt mashbill and is matured for 5-9 years in first and second fill American Oak barrels. This 92 proof expression is finished in Tempranillo, WA Red Blend, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Merlot barrels.

“Westland set out to express the place we live,” says Shane Armstrong, Westland’s Master Blender. “The Cask Exploration Series extends that through collaboration with brewers and winemakers of the PNW – notes woven with our whiskey are pieces to the puzzle of our region. The second batch incorporates new varietals/beer types made from trusted Washington producers, continuing the connection from a different vantage.”

Originally launched in 2024, Westland’s Cask Exploration Series delves into the vast possibilities of cask finishing.

Available via e-commerce this August and nationwide this September, Westland’s Beer Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey, Batch No. 2 (12,840 total bottles) and Westland’s Wine Cask Finish American Single Malt Whiskey, Batch No. 2 (9,048 total bottles) will be available for $74.99.

Chicken Cock Whiskey flew south(west) for its latest collab. The whiskey brand has partnered with Austin-based apparel brand Criquet Shirts to debut The Players Bundle, a limited edition collaboration.

Criquet’s founders, Hobson Brown and Billy Nachman, tasted three of Chicken Cock’s eight-year-aged bourbon barrels, hand selected by Master Distiller Gregg Snyder. Brown and Nachman selected a barrel with a mash bill of 80% corn, 11.5% rye and 8.5% malted barley. The collab also includes a Players Shirt polo from Criquet alongside the apparel retailer’s limited edition single-barrel bourbon pick in a bottle collaboratively designed by the two brands.

“Hob and I, like many of our customers, love sipping on a great whiskey,” says Billy Nachman, Co-Founder of Criquet. “We love the Chicken Cock brand, the history, the packaging and the overall vibe of the company. It’s in line with Criquet’s brand ethos and desire to produce high-quality products with a laid-back attitude. We take what we do seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Chicken Cock has already made in-roads in the world of golf with its Kevin Kisner partnership, and with our presence in the golf and lifestyle markets, we felt like it was a match made in whiskey heaven,” says Nachman. “Plus, Chicken Cock’s vintage-inspired bottles look pretty cool paired with our vintage-inspired Players Shirts!”

This is Chicken Cock’s fourth and final limited edition collaboration in The Famous Old Brand’s Reserve Cask Program, which has featured four one-of-a-kind barrels selected by like-minded partners this fall. Previous collaborators included The Ampal Creative, xx and xx.

Recently, Chicken Cock also debuted its new limited edition release, Red Stave, a celebration of Kentucky bourbon and California wine. Red Stave features Chicken Cock’s bourbon is finished in J. Wilkes Petite Sirah barrels.

With over 300 years of combined whiskey and winemaking history, Chicken Cock and J. Wilkes have partnered to create a bourbon that commemorates America’s rich agricultural background. Bottled at 102.4 proof, the limited edition whiskey’s mash bill is 70% corn, 21% rye and 9% malted barley.

Only 150 bottles of Chicken Cock Whiskey x Criquet Shirts’ The Players Bundle are available for purchase for $225.  Chicken Cock Whiskey’s Red Stave is available nationwide and online for $199.99.
