Virginia Distillery Company is leaning into the recent viral video of a very intoxicated raccoon discovered inside a Virginia ABC store.

When the Lovingston-based distillery posted the message below on Facebook, it immediately received a ton of feedback like “Where can we get raccoon merch?”

Virginia Distillery Co has answered the call with limited-edition “Raccoon Approved” t-shirts and “Raccoon Approved Whisky” stickers. Available through Dec. 31, t-shirts are being sold for $35, while stickers will be sent with any whiskey order. A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to local animal shelters.

Virginia Distillery Co has teamed with Central Waters Brewing Co as the former continues to grow its The Brewer’s Coalition, a limited-edition series of American Single Malt whiskies finished in casks from breweries across the country.

Central Waters Brewing Co. Black Gold Imperial Stout Cask Finish American Single Malt combines Virginia Distillery Co.’s whisky with the Wisconsin’s Central Waters Brewing Co. Black Gold Imperial Stout.

Twelve barrels were sourced for this release, which was first aged in ex-bourbon barrels for over five years before being finished in Imperial Stout barrels and is bottled at 100 proof.

“Central Waters has built a strong reputation in the Midwest and beyond for their commitment to quality and barrel-aged beers,” said Gareth Moore, CEO of Virginia Distillery Co. “Finishing our American Single Malt in Black Gold Imperial Stout barrels allowed us to create a whisky with remarkable complexity, and it’s exactly the type of collaboration The Brewer’s Coalition was designed for.”

“Partnering with Virginia Distillery Co. has been an exciting opportunity for us,” added Anello Mollica, Vice President at Central Waters Brewing Co. “Black Gold has long been the top-rated beer in Wisconsin and a favorite among our fans, and seeing its influence extend into whisky in such a distinctive way is incredibly rewarding. It’s a proud moment for us to bring a bit of Wisconsin craft beer tradition into this
collaboration.”

Central Waters Brewing Co. Black Gold Imperial Stout Cask Finish American Single Malt is available in limited quantities online and at select retailers nationwide for $54.99.

Lost Lantern has just announced their Fall 2021 collection featuring five limited edition single casks. Single casks are an essential piece of the Lost Lantern model, inspired by the long tradition of independent bottlers in Scotland. These highly limited single casks consist of whiskies produced by some of the finest distilleries in the United States.

Since their debut last October, Lost Lantern has released ten single casks from around the country featuring American distilleries like New Mexico’s Santa Fe Spirits, Iowa’s Cedar Ridge, New York Distilling Company (NY), Texas’ Ironroot Republic, Arizona’s Whiskey Del Bac and Texas’ Balcones. Every single cask released thus far has sold out and since been retired.

With the introduction of their third cohort, four new distilleries join the roster, extending Lost Lantern’s single cask collection into a number of new geographical locations. This releases includes a Cedar Ridge Iowa Single Malt Whiskey Finished in a Sherry Cask (555 bottles), a Watershed Ohio Straight Bourbon Whiskey (160 bottles), a Boulder Spirits Colorado Straight Bourbon Whiskey (181 bottles), a Spirit Works California Straight Rye Whiskey (195 bottles) and a St. George Spirits California Single Malt Whiskey (250 bottles). All offerings are bottled at cask strength, are non-chill-filtered and have natural color.

“Lost Lantern’s Fall 2021 Single Cask Collection includes some of our very favorite casks we’ve come across so far. It includes whiskies from long-established, well-known distilleries like St. George Spirits and Cedar Ridge, as well as whiskies from highly regarded distilleries like Watershed, Boulder, and Spirit Works that have devoted followings, but aren’t distributed as widely,” says Lost Lantern co-founder Nora Ganley-Roper. “We’re especially excited to be releasing our first whiskey from Colorado and our first two whiskies from California, both major hotspots of craft distilling in the U.S.”

“Some of our casks push the boundaries of a particular style, like Single Cask #3, our high-malt bourbon from Boulder Spirits, or Single Cask #2, a five-grain bourbon from Watershed in Ohio,” says Lost Lantern co-founder Adam Polonski. “Others are more traditional in style but come from places you wouldn’t expect. Single Cask #1, a Sherry-finished Single Malt from Cedar Ridge in Iowa, is exactly like that: even though the Great Plains aren’t well known for single malt (yet!), this cask will delight lovers of sherry and sherried whiskies. We truly believe this collection not only shows our range but the range of American whiskey, and it will provide something new and exciting for even the most educated whiskey drinker!”

Beginning with the Fall 2021 collection, Lost Lantern has introduced a new cask numbering system. Every front label now includes the release year, cask number and alcohol by volume written by hand.

In addition to the single cask releases, Lost Lantern’s flagship blend, American Vatted Malt Edition No. 1 remains available. Created with some of the biggest names in American single malt (Balcones, Copperworks, Santa Fe Spirits, Triple Eight, Westward and Virginia Distillery Co.), American Vatted Malt represents collaboration and community amongst distillers who share the vision of bringing American whiskey into the light it deserves.

Cedar Ridge Iowa Single Malt Whiskey Finished in a Sherry Cask retails for $110. The Watershed Ohio Straight Bourbon Whiskey retails for $100. Boulder Spirits Colorado Straight Bourbon Whiskey retails for $105. The Spirit Works California Straight Rye Whiskey retails for $80. St. George Spirits California Single Malt Whiskey retails for $150. The Fall 2021 single cask collection will be offered for presale via LostLanternWhiskey.com. These casks will also be available at a later point via Seelbachs.com. Lost Lantern is also introduced four specialty bundles. Each package such as the Bourbon Bundle, American Single Malt Bundle and others features preferential pricing ranging from $195 – $640, and can be ordered via LostLanternWhiskey.com.
