Old Forester announces the latest release in its acclaimed 117 Series: Prohibition Era Still Proof. This limited-edition expression pays homage to the brand’s past as one of the few distilleries legally permitted to produce whiskey for medicinal purposes during Prohibition.

Bottled at 130 proof, this special release is a nod to the historical fact that Old Forester was distilled at 130 proof during the 100-day distiller’s holiday a few years prior to the repeal of Prohibition. During the 1930s, a select group of government-authorized distillers — including Old Forester — were granted licenses to replenish whiskey stocks for medicinal use.

“This release is a tribute to the ingenuity that allowed Old Forester to endure and emerge stronger during one of the most challenging periods for American whiskey,” said Caleb Trigo, Assistant Master Distillery of Old Forester. “This bourbon offers a glimpse into the intensity and authenticity of our Prohibition heritage.”

The release coincided with Repeal Day (Dec. 5), the date marking the end of Prohibition in 1933, when the 21st Amendment restored Americans’ right to enjoy bourbon once again.

Old Forester 117 Series: Prohibition Era Still Proof is available in limited quantities for $64.99.

Old Forester once again honors its founder George Garvin Brown’s birthday with the annual release of its Birthday Bourbon.

This year’s expression is 12 years old and 92 proof. In a rare departure from tradition, this year’s batch was created without the use of “setback” during fermentation — a standard practice that ensures consistency. Instead, a “sweet mash” process was used, relying solely on freshly-propagated yeast.

These rare barrels from one day’s production (April 5, 2013) were selected by Old Forester Master Distiller Emeritus Chris Morris and Old Forester Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo. It was drawn from 210 barrels aged in Warehouse K, Floors 1 and 5.

“For our 25th Birthday Bourbon release, the absence of setback allowed the yeast to express its full character, creating a flavor profile that’s both delicate and complex,” Old Forester Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo said.

Old Forester celebrates the birthday of its founder, George Garvin Brown, with this limited-edition, vintage-dated bottle released each September 2. Birthday Bourbon was available through an online sweepstakes running on OldForester.com August 18 through August 21, 2025.

“There’s no better way to honor our founder than by sharing this rare and remarkable expression with bourbon lovers nationwide,” Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift said.

Anyone winning the opportunity to purchase a bottle through the sweepstakes must purchase and pick it up at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville between Thursday (Sept. 4) and December 20.

Each bottle of The 2025 Old Forester Birthday Bourbon retailed for $199.99.

Old Forester remembers its roots via the release of 1910 Extra Extra Old, part of 117 Series.

The double-barreled bourbon is aged for an extra 24-months in a heavily charred secondary oak barrel and is 93 proof. 1910 Extra Extra Old debuted in Spring 2021 as a result of an experiment of aging 1910 Old Fine Whisky for an extended finishing period which impacted the expression’s tasting profile.

“This bourbon exemplifies our innovative spirit at Old Forester by taking something great and making it even better,”said Old Forester Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo. “The additional maturation leveraged to produce this release unlocks incredibly robust and distinctive flavor.”

Old Forester 1910 commemorates the October 22, 1910 distillery fire at 117 Main Street. A batch of mature whisky, ready to be bottled, was then re-barreled in new barrels so it could be removed due to the fire damage. For Extra Extra Old, the extra time in its secondary barrel extracts a more heavily charred influence.

Old Forester Extra Extra Old is available in limited quantities at the Old Forester Distillery as well as select Kentucky retailers for $64.99.

Old Forester announces the national debut of one of its most coveted and rarest expressions, President’s Choice.

Inspired by private single barrels offered in 1964 by former Old Forester president George Garvin Brown II, these expressions are specifically selected from matured barrels with certain quality and characteristics. Previously available only at the Old Forester Distillery in Louisville, this marks the first time President’s Choice Bourbon and a new expression, President’s Choice Rye, will be offered nationwide.

“President’s Choice has always been an incredibly rare and cherished bottle, and most consumers have never seen it, let alone tasted the whisky,” Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift said. “We are honored to bring it to a wider audience.”

“Every barrel selected for President’s Choice tells a story,” Old Forester Assistant Master Distiller Caleb Trigo added. “These are the barrels that showcase an extraordinary depth of character. Whether it’s the bourbon or our new rye, each bottle represents the pinnacle of Old Forester’s craftsmanship.”

Each President’s Choice barrel is aged between 7 – 9 years, and bottled at proof points selected by Trigo and Rift, traditionally ranging from 110 to 125 proof.

Old Forester’s President’s Choice Bourbon and President’s Choice Rye each have a retail price of $225.

The Editorial team took a break for Dry January (well, damp) but we’re back and the same as ever. Since we missed January releases, will use this post as our way as covering as much of those releases as we missed. Please don’t hate us if we missed yours.

All Nations Kentucky Straight Bourbon – Premium spirits company Staghorn is relaunching the entire whiskey line up from its Garrard County Distilling Co. beginning with its new flagship whiskey. The 5- to 7-year-old blend from notable Kentucky distilling stalwarts showcases the skill of its panel of four award-winning whiskey experts behind the selection. All Nations engages a panel with decades of experience at such distillers as Jim Beam, Barton, MGP and Bluegrass to create its whiskey.  With Garrard County coming online last January, the whiskey was crafted with existing stocks from distilleries across the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The mash bills are: 75% corn, 12% rye, 13% malted barley; 70% corn, 21% rye, 9% malted barley; and 64% corn, 24% rye, 12% malted barley, respectively. The whiskey was aged in #4 alligator char barrels in Clermont, Danville, Owensboro, and Boston, KY before arriving for a final aging at Garrard County in Lancaster, KY. All Nations is blended onsite using water sourced from the limestone-rich Lancaster Public Spring aquifer, first tapped by settlers in 1776.

Barrell Foundation Double Barrel – – Barrell Craft Spirits launched this expression as a line extension of Barrell Foundation, the company’s first non-cask strength bourbon. The expression is a blend of Kentucky (8 year), Indiana (5, 6, and 9 year), Tennessee (8 year), and Maryland (5 and 6 year) bourbons. It features a derived mashbill of 73% corn, 23% rye, and 4% malted barley and is bottled at 100 proof.

Doc Holiday Bottled In BondWorld Whiskey Society announced the launch of its latest release, a blend of 7, 8, 10, 11 and 15 year-old expressions. Made at a single distillery during one distilling season, this bourbon is aged for no less than four years in a federally bonded warehouse.

Knob Creek x Eli Manning 2025 Bold Pick – Knob Creek teamed with the Super Bowl champion for this limited-edition single barrel bourbon. Hand-selected by Manning and Eighth Generation Master Distiller Freddie Noe, the expression is aged for a minimum of nine years in American white oak barrels and bottled at 120 proof.

Old Forester Whiskey Row 1910 – For The Love of Bourbon. Photographer – Leslie Grow. Prop Stylist – Amy Taylor. Drink Stylist – Laura Kinsey Dolph. Wardrobe Stylist – Amiee Byrne.

Old Forester 1924 – Returning to shelves for a second year, this 10-year-old 100-proof bourbon features a mash bill of 79% corn, 11% rye and 10% malted barley rather than the traditional Old Forester recipe. It is the newest addition to the brand’s Whiskey Row Series, a collection of Old Forester expressions that commemorate distinguishable moments from the brand’s 153-year history.

Old Forester The 117 Series – This limited-edition whisky derived from an extra-long double-barreling process and commemorates the October 22, 1910 distillery fire at 117 Main Street. A batch of mature whisky, ready to be bottled, was then re-barreled in new barrels so it could be removed due to the fire damage. What emerged from the re-barreling was Old Fine Whisky. For Extra Old, the brand left the 1910 whiskey aging in a secondary barrel.

WhistlePig Snout to Tail 10 Year Bourbon – After a decade of releasing ryes, WhistlePig is going “whole hog” with this 10 year old 88 proof bourbon finished in two toasted barrel heads – a Vermont oak medium toast (“the snout”) and a Vermont oak smoked maple wood toast (“the tail”). Its release celebrates with the upcoming opening of WhistlePig’s Louisville outpost,The WhistlePig PiggyBank, in summer 2025.

Old Forester recently dropped surprise release of its rarest expression, President’s Choice.

The limited release comes from single barrels that were crucial for the 7–12-year aging process and contribute to optimal flavor within the 105-120 proof range.

President’s Choice dates to 1964 when former Brown-Forman President George Garvin Brown II offered the first private single barrels to customers. That tradition continues today as Old Forester surprises consumers with a summer release of President’s Choice.

“President’s Choice is our most sought-after product – and most people never get the chance to buy a bottle,” said Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift. “We’re excited to announce this special President’s Choice release just in time for Father’s Day.”

Old Forester’s President’s Choice is available online and at Old Forester Distillery for $225.

What is your all-time favorite whiskey experience? If you are an enthusiast you can probably pinpoint either a place, a moment, taste, or an aroma that is still special. I get it, I have traveled to many places around the world and usually end up with a glass of liquid sunshine in hand while making some of the best memories.

However, if you are new to the scene and looking to form an appreciation of spirits distilled from malted grain or just for a top notch experience, a sampling event can be an exciting journey of exploration. Recently, I attended a Whiskey Tasting experience near me that allowed guests to discover the spirit of luxury and adventure. Mohegan Sun, one of the largest, most splendid entertainment, gaming, dining and shopping destinations in the US, welcomed guests to their 8th Annual Sun Whiskey Union — an evening filled with whiskeys from around the world, delicious bites and live music.

Created with a wide variety for everyone to try-From top of the line whiskey, scotch, bourbon and rye, stands were filled with the spectrum, from low to high. With a glass in hand, guests met distillers and whiskey experts that gave neat pours of bold, complex and discerning flavors while learning more about their styles of whiskey and other libations. With a new generation of whiskey drinkers trading up to premium and ultra-premium spirits, along with longstanding favorites this whiskey tasting event was aged to perfection.

For those craving a step up from neat or on the rocks, unique craft cocktails were shaken, stirred and juggled by mixologists that were definitely Instagram worthy. While many tasting events just offer nibbles of charcuterie, attendees at Sun Whiskey Union were treated to mouthwatering cuisine from Bear’s Smokehouse BBQ and treats from NoRA Cupcake Company as live music lifted spirits.

Old Forester has just announced the newest release in its Whiskey Row Series, 1924.

This 10-year-old age-stated bourbon is 100 proof and comprises a new mash bill for the brand. Rather than the traditional Old Forester recipe (72% corn; 18% rye and 10% malted barley), 1924 debuts a new mash bill (79% corn; 11% rye and 10% malted barley).

The bottle marks an important point in Old Forester’s 153-year history. During Prohibition, more than 200 distilleries in Kentucky alone were forced to close. Old Forester, however, continued operations because the federal government issued it one of six permits to bottle existing whiskey stocks as medicine. In 1924, Old Forester acquired barrels from closed distillers, with different mash bills, and bottled that liquid as Old Forester. This special release commemorates that moment in time.

This release honors the 100th anniversary of that whiskey innovation. Old Forester is the only bourbon brand produced before, during and after Prohibition. “We are honored to commemorate this historical milestone with a new featured mash bill and a beautiful 10-year age statement,’ Old Forester Master Taster Melissa Rift said. “It allows whisky lovers to taste just how dynamic our brand can be while staying rooted in our rich history.”

This marks the fifth installment in the Whiskey Row Series. The Whiskey Row series also includes 1870 Original Batch, 1897 Bottled in Bond, 1910 Old Fine Whisky and 1920 Prohibition Style. Each highlights a distinguishable moment in the brand’s 153-year history garnering its place in the series.

Old Forester 1924 is available nationwide for $115.
