Walsh Whiskeys recently announced the US launch of its Writers’ Tears Red Head Single Malt Irish Whiskey.

The Writers’ Tears Red Head Single Malt whiskey is matured in select handpicked Spanish sherry casks, previously seasoned with Oloroso sherry. It is the influence of these casks that give this expression of Writers’ Tears its signature rich and ruby hue, hence the moniker – “Red Head.”

“We are delighted to finally debut Writers’ Tears Red Head in the United States, especially for fans of our other core expressions in the Writer’ Tears range, who have long looked forward to experiencing this distinct whiskey,” said Bernard Walsh, Creator of Writers’ Tears as well as Walsh Whiskey Co-Founder and Managing Director. “We are very proud of the marriage between this Single Malt expression and the precious, hand selected Oloroso sherry casks.”

At 92 proof, Writers’ Tears Red Head joins the Writers’ Tears range of its Copper Pot, Double Oak, and annual Cask Strength Whiskeys, which started coming into the U.S. in 2016.

Imported by Hotaling & Co., the Writers’ Tears Red Head Single Malt Whiskey is a limited-edition expression available for $69.99.

Nikka Whisky recently introduced its first set of releases from the “Nikka Discovery” series in the U.S. — Single Malt Yoichi Non-Peated and Single Malt Miyagikyo Peated.

The “Nikka Discovery” series will develop limited editions over the next three years in anticipation of Nikka Whisky’s 90th Anniversary in 2024. Each year will focus on a different component of the whisky-making process that Nikka has practiced since 1934, offering an inside look at the various experiments within Nikka’s two distilleries.

These rare versions of Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts are the first look showcase of “Nikka Discovery” and highlight the distillery’s diverse ingredients. Single Malt Yoichi Non-Peated (94 Proof) is comprised solely of unpeated malts as opposed to the preconceived “peaty” image of Yoichi. On the contrary, Single Malt Miyagikyo Peated (96 Proof) is crafted solely from batches of peated malts, which offers a significant distinction from the “light and fruity” image of Miyagikyo.

“We are so pleased to introduce these unique expressions from our emblematic Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts.” says Emiko Kaji, Nikka Whisky International Business Development Manager. “It is an exciting process, like treasure hunting, to try various whisky batches from our vast reserve guided by Nikka blenders, and to create products that embody the “Discovery” concept. The release of Nikka Discovery limited editions 2021 is the initial step to further showcase the depth of Nikka’s whisky-making developed over the years, and our attempt to keep progressing and share more excitement with our valued customers around the world.”

“Once again Nikka Whisky has turned preconceived notions on their head and expanded our palettes with this inaugural two expression release from the ‘Nikka Discovery’ series”, says Hotaling & Co. CEO and President Dan Leese. “Celebrating experimentation, innovation and pushing barriers are hallmarks of this iconic brand and we are excited to bring these distinctive bottlings to whisk(e)y fans and connoisseurs alike across the U.S.”

Both expressions are non-chill filtered toenhance their unique characteristics. Limited to 20,000 bottles each worldwide and Nikka Whisky’s Single Malt Yoichi Non-Peated and Single Malt Miyagikyo Peated are available for $274.99 each.

Hirsch Selected Whiskeys recently announced the debut of its Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

The release marks the brand’s first-ever single barrel to hit the market. A limited batch of just 57 barrels, Hirsch‘s latest expression is aged for a minimum of six years in Bardstown, Kentucky in new American Oak barrels. The whiskey is non-chilled filtered, combining a mashbill of 72% corn, 13% rye, and 15% malted barley.

In 1974, when A.H. Hirsch first commissioned his A.H Hirsch Reserve bourbon, his story became an inspiration to many, to never settle, keep an eye on the horizon and chase one’s dreams. He raised the bar and set the model for what whiskey should be. The Hirsch brand continues to honor that sentiment.

“The Hirsch brand aims to celebrate those who dare to take a new path and discover new passions, just as A.H. Hirsch did when he left his banking career to pursue whiskey and philanthropist. The Single Barrel release is reminiscent of the 400 barrels A.H Hirsch commissioned, yet even more limited and coveted than before with just 57 barrels,” says Luis Rivas Ball, American whiskey lead at Hotaling & Co. “At Hirsch, we are committed to sourcing quality whiskey that surprises and delights consumers, offering outstanding liquid that you can’t find anywhere else. Each release is an adventure and this first Single Barrel is perfect representation of where the brand plans to go in the future.”

Set to hit stores on Nov. 1, The Hirsch Single Barrel Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey Release has a Barrel Entry ABV of 62.5% and will retail for $89.99.

Hirsch Selected Whiskeys and Outside have teamed up on a journey of discovery through its new “Chase Your Horizon” campaign. The two brands are offering an unforgettable “glamping” experience at Under Canvas.

Beginning Saturday (May 1), consumers at least 21 years old can enter to win by sharing an original photo of themselves enjoying the outdoors on Instagram and tagging @HirschWhiskey with the hashtag #ChaseYourHorizonContest, or by uploading the original image on chaseyourhorizon.com. Entries close at 11:59 pm ET on July 10, 2021.

The whiskey brand’s founder A.H. Hirsch, a banker who left city life to pursue his dream of creating the best bourbon, is an inspiration for the campaign. Hirsch is a testament to pushing the craft into a whole new standard of excellence— the entire experience is meant to inspire others to chase their own horizon. Hirsch is a spirit for the modern explorer, trailblazers and enthusiasts who celebrate quality moments with quality whiskey.

“It’s in the spirit of journey of our founder A.H. Hirsch and our latest expression The Horizon that Hirsch launches the Chase your Horizon campaign,” says Luis Rivas Ball, Head of American Whiskeys portfolio at Hotaling & Co. “We want to encourage modern explorers to discover their own journey and share their best horizons in a style similar to how we approach producing whiskey, with a unique and discovery mindset.”

A brand for those who seek out the hidden gems of the world and experience life to the fullest, the partnership with Outside was a seamless fit for this exciting campaign.

Hirsch’s latest expression, The Horizon combines two straight bourbons distilled in Lawrenceburg, Indiana. Modeled by the inspiration to travel and discover, each bottle features a grid on the back label with exact batch specifications. 94% of the blend is distilled from a traditional mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley aged a minimum of 4 years. The remaining 6% is distilled from a “high rye” mash aged 6 years for added complexity.

Hirsch The Horizon was first introduced in summer 2020 to eight states and has grown to more than 20 states. This Spring, Hirsch becomes available in Arizona and Washington.

Nikka Whisky has released a pair of limited edition single malts finished in apple brandy barrels: Yoichi Single Malt Whisky Finished in Apple Brandy Barrels and Miyagikyo Single Malt Whisky Finished in Apple Brandy Barrels.

Produced to commemorate the 100th wedding anniversary of Nikka’s founder Masataka Taketsuru and his wife Jessie Roberts “Rita” Cowan, who were married in 1920, the Apple Brandy Finish whiskies represent the beginning of Nikka’s story, which started with an apple orchard on the island of Hokkaido, Japan. While Mastataka waited for the first whiskies to mature, it was apples that sustained Nikka’s business in its early years. The company produced various products made from local Hokkaido apples, including apple juice, apple jelly, apple sauce, and apple wine.

In fact, Nikka was initially established in 1934 as “Dai Nippon Kaju” (The Great Japanese Juice Company) before launching the first Nikka Whisky in 1940 and officially changing the company name to Nikka Whisky in 1952. To this day, apples are often associated with Rita to pay homage to the way she supported Masataka, just as apples supported Nikka.

Yoichi Apple Brandy Finish is produced at Nikka’s first distillery in Japan’s northern island Hokkaido and is aged in various casks including new American oak and sherry casks. By comparison, the Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Finish is produced at Nikka’s second distillery Miyagikyo, located in Sendai, in the northern part of Japan’s main island. Aged in mainly new American oak, ex-Bourbon barrels, and sherry casks. Both expressions are distilled from 100% malted barley, finished in carefully selected Nikka apple brandy casks for over six months, and are non-chill filtered.

“The marriage of Masataka and Rita means a lot for us as it is the prologue of Nikka Whisky, prior to the foundation,” says Emiko Kaji, Nikka Whisky international business development manager. “For this anniversary, we came up with the idea to release something special using our assets of apple products symbolizing Rita. These whiskies showcase the elegant effects of apple brandy wood finish, in addition to the beautiful contrast between Yoichi and Miyagikyo.”

The Nikka range also includes the newly released Nikka Days, Nikka From The Barrel, Nikka Coffey Malt Whisky, Nikka Taketsuru Pure Malt, Nikka Coffey Grain Whisky, and Nikka Coffey Gin and Nikka Coffey Vodka.

Nikka’s Yoichi and Miyagikyo Apple Brandy Finish whiskies will be distributed in California, New York, Texas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Florida, Colorado, Washington State, and Tennessee for $249.99.

We all have our favorite everyday sippers. Nikka Whisky is hoping that its latest expression, Nikka Days, will join their ranks as its made just for that reason.

With more than 80 years of mastery in blending, Nikka created Nikka Days (40% ABV), as a whisky for everyday drinking occasions. Imported by Hotaling & Co., Nikka Days features bright and modern packaging to reflect the floral and smooth whisky within.

Both the flavors and appearance of Nikka Days were designed to highlight the bright side of whisky and whisky consumption. The blend is structured by the mellow and smooth Coffey Grain Whisky and aromatic non-peated Miyagikyo malts, along with a touch of Coffey Malt Whisky and Yoichi malts to enhance the bright sweetness and rich body.

“As the name suggests, Nikka Days has been developed for whisky lovers who appreciate fine drinks on any casual day,” says Emiko Kaji, Nikka Whisky international business development manager. “This elegant whisky can be enjoyed neat, on the rocks, in a simple highball or refreshing cocktail. We hope that Nikka Days will complement and elevate your day.”

“With a unique and modern design, Nikka Days is an exciting addition to Hotaling & Co.’s extensive portfolio of curated whiskies and artisanal spirits,” says Hotaling & Co. CEO and President Dan Leese. “Nikka Days comes after the release of Nikka From The Barrel, named the 2018 Whisky of the Year by Whisky Advocate, both showcasing the blender’s skills at their peak.”

Nikka Days will retail for $49.99 and is available in California, New York, Texas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Florida and Tennessee. Distribution will expand to more markets in 2021.

Hotaling & Co. recently announced the release of The Horizon Straight Bourbon Whiskey.

Let’s travel back to the past so we can understand the future. In 1974, A.H. Hirsch commissioned bourbon from the original Michter’s Distillery. The whiskey created during that time became iconic when the distillery was shuddered and barrels of juice sat aging for far longer than expected. The Horizon represents the first offering from its descendant, Hirsch Selected Whiskeys

The Horizon reflects the brand’s philosophy of curating the best in American whiskey and celebrates “The Spirit of the Journey.” It combines two straight bourbons distilled in Lawrenceburg, IN. Each bottle of The Horizon, which is 92 proof, provides the exact batch specifications on the rear label. The inaugural batch, AHH0320, is made up of two components: 94% of the blend is distilled from a traditional mash bill of 75% corn, 21% rye, 4% malted barley aged 5 years and 4 months; the remaining 6% is distilled from a high-rye mash aged 6 years and 2 months for added complexity.

To convey the new brand’s sense of adventure, design company Stranger & Stranger incorporated the image of a sextant into the brand’s logo to communicate that spirit. The flask-shaped bottle features a wooden-top cork stopper with compass marks, while the label features a color scheme that evokes nautical maps and other visual references to travel and exploration. The base of the bottle hides a message for the curious: “No Stone Left Unturned.”

“We invite people to take a journey into the world of bourbon and discover what makes Hirsch legendary,” says Dan Leese, President and CEO of Hotaling & Co. “The Horizon takes the first step into the future of Hirsch, with additional expressions planned to round out the collection.”

Hirsch’s The Horizon arrives this summer in California, Texas, Illinois, Massachusetts, Tennessee, New York, Kentucky, Georgia, and via online retailers. It will be priced at $39.99.

The Dingle Whiskey Distillery represents a new generation of distilleries propelling Irish whiskey to the fore. Located in southwest Kerry, Ireland, Dingle is one of the only distilleries that sources grain, distills the spirit, ages and bottles its whiskey for its own exclusive releases. In partnership with U.S. importer Hotaling & Co., Dingle now announces the arrival of Dingle Single Malt Whiskey Batch No. 4, a limited-edition whiskey that will be available nationally.

Opened in 2012, Dingle distills four casks per day. Each cask is triple-distilled and matured in where the elements of its coastal location create a whiskey distinctive to any other – even previous Dingle Distillery releases. Produced and tended to entirely by hand, this marriage of bourbon, sherry (Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso) and port casks has resulted in a full flavored yet harmoniously balanced mixture.

“Dingle is a gem of a distillery producing exceptional spirits unique to its location thanks to the unique microclimate of its environment. In this latest limited release, we see a depth and complexity that only time in premium sherry casks can impart.” says Morgan Robbat, chief marketing officer of Hotaling & Co.

“We are very pleased with this latest expression of Dingle whiskey and we hope that we continue to bring people along as well as finding new people to explore the Dingle Whiskey Distillery journey with us,” says Elliot Hughes, business development director for Dingle Distillery. “The marriage of bourbon, port and sherry has certainly had people talking and we believe that pallets will be suitably impressed!”

Dingle offers the flavors of Ireland in the form of Dingle Single Malt, Dingle Original Gin, and Dingle Artisan Vodka, each produced in copper pot stills.

Dingle Single Malt Whiskey, Batch No. 4 will retail for $99.99.
