Last week I attended the launch of Woodford Reserve’s Double Double Oaked at the beautiful Studio 525. Kicking off fashion week, it was hosted by acclaimed designer Sergio Hudson. Also in attendance was Woodford Reserve Master Distiller Elizabeth McCall, who held private tastings all night of this sought-after Bourbon that always sells out fast. With great tunes, classic bourbon, and an eclectic mix of tastemakers, fashionistas, and lovers of bourbon, it was a dope event that kicked off New York Fashion Week well.

Product notes:

“Double Double Oaked is handcrafted by finishing fully-mature Woodford Reserve Double Oaked Bourbon for an additional two years in a second, heavily toasted, lightly charred, new oak barrel (hence the name Double Double Oaked). The 700 ml bottle, presented at 90.4 proof, has a suggested retail price of $199.99”

On a sunny New York day, I took a trip upstate to the famous Woodstock ’69 grounds of Bethel Woods, NY in care of Ammunition Whiskey. The scenic chartered ride out of the concrete jungle to the lush greenery of New York state was accompanied by Ammunition Whiskey’s latest Cask Strength expression finished for 6 months in French Bordeaux wine barrels which previously held Ammunition Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon. We were there to sample some amazing juice, hear music from Hozier, and experience a piece of American history.

Greeted by Ammunition Whiskey founder Andy Wahl, we all took an entertaining and informative museum tour down rock music history of how Woodstock 1969 came to be and why it was such a staple in American history. We toured the historic grounds that Hendrix, Joplin, and many more walked. It was a special feeling. Hearing the stories about the creation, pitfalls, triumphs, challenges, and a little bit of magic, and understanding the special part in history, this place has made why Ammunition partners with them crystal clear–it’s authentic, passionate, and open to everyone.

We dined at The Old Foundation, made from a converted residence, a family oriented restaurant with large wood tables, glassware from your grandmother’s cupboard, and tons of locals breaking bread. The cozy dinner with cocktail pairings per course and plenty of Ammunition Cabernet Sauvignon and Ammunition Pinot Noir. The highlight of the dinner was the conversation with Peter Tambini, Ammunition Partner, and Andy recalling why and how Ammunition came into being. They utilized their wine barrels and finished whiskey in them to create a truly unique flavor.

Lastly, we sat in the Membership Lounge off to the left of the stage, sipping Ammunition Straight Rye whiskey, learning what’s next for Ammunition and recounting my unique experience of the day before Hozier took the stage. Playing to a crowd of 17,000+, him and his five piece band was electrifying. He sang all his hits including what we were there for, “TOO SWEET,” and the signature line “I like my whiskey neat.”

A big thanks to Ammunition Whiskey and Factory PR for once in a lifetime experience.

On June 25th, I was invited to the historic Elizabeth Street Gardens in New York’s NoLita neighborhood  to experience The Glenlivet’s 200th Anniversary Party.

The star of the show was The Glenlivet Fusion Cask which they describe as “a first-of-its-kind expression that invites drinkers to explore new levels of flavor.” From our choice of two cocktails and a tasting, partygoers were delighted to taste the new juice from The Glenlivet Rum & Bourbon Fusion Cask Selection.

We were treated to an exquisite speciality cake by Laila Gohar – a celebrated artist who creates with food. The seventeen foot cake was decorated in various hues of color and intricate pipework to signify the partnership of The Glenlivet’s distinctive identity with Gohar’s signature style. It was as delicious as it looked!

Sipping the Fusion Cask amongst the fireflies, wonderful music, and delectable cake, it was a great way to usher in the summer and celebrate The Glenlivets 200th.

More from their official press release:

For 200 years, The Glenlivet has followed in the footsteps of its founder George Smith with its storied history of innovation from flavor to craftmanship. This spirit of innovation is alive today as The Glenlivet continues to evolve the category, most recently marked by the release of The Glenlivet Rum and Bourbon Fusion Cask in February 2024. This category-first single malt Scotch whisky offers a luxurious new depth of flavor by selectively finishing its signature single malt Scotch whisky in bespoke casks made by dismantling and reassembling first-fill rum and bourbon barrels. This distinctive technique imparts a harmonious fusion of luscious fruit and caramel-toffee notes.

Bio

Son of a painter and grandson of a jazz singer, popular culture isn’t just nostalgia for Lance Pilgrim. It’s family history.

Growing up, this Queens born artist was heavily influenced by New York’s pop cultural past, and dove into the vinyl and VHS tapes that surrounded him. From martial arts to blaxploitation, classic jazz to funk and soul, and from arthouse to grindhouse–he grew up in a library of deep-cuts, curated over decades by his culturally immersed family.

Always an eager student, his first public showing was an opportunity to dive further in. As part of “Behind the Green Door,” he was the youngest amongst a well-established West Village collective of artists. He used this as yet another an opportunity to absorb the knowledge of the OGs.

Pilgrim went on to further honor the past when he co-created and hosted the nostalgic experiences, Hot Peas & Butta and Bullies & Brothels event series, which revived the cinematic aesthetic and sound of blaxploitation, martial arts, and 70s B-Movies. The international acclaim of these events allotted Pilgrim the opportunity to showcase his own work and curate exhibitions in The Netherlands.

In 2014, Pilgrim co-founded Passion & Poison Studio, a branding and creative agency in New York City.

I chatted with one of my favorite art couples, Nikki and Dela Longfish, who create accessible affordable art for the public. I attended San Jose St. University with them and studied under the same teachers. Taking those lessons and applying them to different mediums is a specialty of ours. We talk about how they started selling their art that was different from their 9-5, managing a creative job burnout, the origin of Nikki’s “Miso Soup” art series, and Dela recounts his time putting together The Art of God of War art book. My Friends are Fresh featuring Nikki and Dela Longfish.
