Whisky, Welcome Back Again

The supply of whisky in Scotland was stoppered in 1757 after a ban on distillation in order to conserve grain for other uses. The ban was lifted in 1760, and whisky returned to the land. Niel Gow was happy once more. This tune is the likely origin point for the melody that became “Whisky in the Jar,” an equally celebratory tune to praise the “water of life.”
