If I Could Get a Dram, I Would Take It

Good dance melodies and rhythms are like a good bottle of whisky: Worth spreading around and sharing with all. “If I Could Get a Dram, I Would Take It” expresses the affirmative coy answer to the simple question, “A drink?” Many a folk musician of the eighteenth century might well have been asked this during a session or dance. The tune expresses the same desire, and the same answer, as the similar tune “Fill the Measure.”
